Having a problem with your BoT Talk? We're here to help. Often, the quickest way to solve most issues is a standard restart.
How to perform a standard restart
- Plug in the charging cable and make sure the light turns on.
- Quickly plug and unplug the cable five times in a row within 20 seconds.
- BoT Talk display model 🇯🇵: The "BoT" logo will appear on the screen. If it doesn't, please repeat step 2.
- BoT Talk model 🇯🇵 🇺🇸: A white light will begin to spin.
- GPS BoT model 🇯🇵: There is no visual indicator for this step. Please proceed to the next step.
- Charge the device until the charging light turns green.
- Take it outside for a few minutes to find a new signal.
Note: 📷 above shows an example of step 2 using the BoT Talk display model 🇯🇵.
Note: The steps above are for a standard restart. If this doesn't solve your issue, the other restart option is explained in our full guide: “How to Restart Your BoT Device”
Other Common Issues
If a restart doesn't solve your problem, here are a few simple solutions to the most common questions. If you don't see your issue listed, please feel free to use the search bar on our main support page.
The charging light won’t turn on
This is usually related to the charging setup. Please double-check that the cable and charger are securely connected. For more details, see our guide: "What to do if your BoT device won't charge"
The white light is spinning
This means your BoT is communicating with the network. Please wait a moment for it to finish. For more info, see: "Why is the LED Light Spinning White Continuously?"
The app still shows "Demo" after setup
Don't worry, this is normal. It means the device's SIM card is still activating. Please allow a little time for this to complete. For details, please see: "Getting started with your BoT Talk" page.
The location isn't updating
To save battery life, BoT Talk automatically pauses location updates when it isn't moving. Once your child is on the move again, the updates will resume. For other possible reasons, please read: "Why Isn't the Location Updating?"
The location seems incorrect
If you see a location where your child wasn't, you can help us improve accuracy by reporting it directly from the app. Here’s how: "How to report incorrect location"
I'm getting repeated notifications while my child is stationary
This can sometimes happen due to small, normal variations in GPS signals. To fix this, you can try slightly adjusting the center or size of your notification spot in the app. For tips on how to fix this, see: "I'm Getting Repeated Arrival and Departure Notifications"
I can't send Talk messages
A simple restart (see steps above) will often fix this.
I can't hear Talk messages
- Can't hear from the main speaker ("Play on speaker"): Try turning up your phone's media volume.
- Can't hear from the earpiece ("Listen from phone"): To set the volume, press and hold your phone's volume-up button while you tap the play button in the app. Also, check if your phone is connected to a Bluetooth device.
