If your child's location isn't updating, check these common reasons in order.
Your child is stationary (Sleep Mode)
To save battery, BoT device pauses updates when your child is stationary, resuming with movement. This is the top reason a location seems 'stuck'.
The BoT device is in an area with a weak signal
Like a cell phone, the BoT needs a signal to work. Updates may be delayed if your child is in a place like:
- A building, mall, underground or a school bus
- A fast-moving vehicle (faster than 100km/h or 62mph)
What you can do
Note: These tips only work for stationary locations, not fast-moving vehicles.
- Try 'Performance Mode': Improves accuracy in weak signal areas but uses more battery.
- Adjust 'Notification Points': In large buildings, move the pin to an entrance or gate with a better signal.
- Improve placement: Indoors, a window or a Wi-Fi source helps greatly.
Airplane Mode is on
Check the map in your app. If a red Airplane Mode (updates paused) message is above your child's icon, it means the mode is on.
How to turn it off (depends on your model):
- For BoT Talk models (US & Japan): The mode will automatically turn off once the BoT device is fully charged.
- For BoT Talk display models (Japan only): Swipe the white circle on the BoT device's screen to the right.
The battery is depleted
A dead battery stops all location updates. If this happens while your child is stationary (in Sleep Mode), you may not receive a low-battery alert before it shuts down.
- Tip: Unplayed Talk drain the battery. Please ask your child to play them promptly. We also recommend charging regularly.
